For someone getting their first chiropractic adjustment, it’s important to keep in mind that there is a healing process when it comes to the health of your spine.
Chances are that the misalignments in your spine have existed for a while, and long term stress and tension on the nerves exiting the spinal column because of ‘said’ misalignments, or what we chiropractors call a vertebral subluxation, will bring about a number of uncomfortable, painful, and/or debilitating conditions.
After an adjustment, the spine needs time to acclimate to its ‘new’ positioning. It took a while to get this imbalanced, and it will take some time for the body’s healing process to work its innate magic. Not as much time as took to get you to this point, but healing can take some time.
My instructions to all of my new patients is to take it easy the rest of the day, and that if you want to resume your favorite strenuous activity tomorrow, go for it. Just be advised that you may be very sore tomorrow from the adjustment today.
Giving your spine a breather for the remainder of the day after an adjustment will give you the best chance of balanced, aligned spine and the light, loose feeling of vitality you deserve.
